About me

About me

Born and bred in northwest England, I studied German and French at a Scottish university before beginning my working life in Basel, Switzerland in spring 2000 (after an eight-month post-graduation intermezzo at a bank in Surrey). First I lived on the German side of the Swiss border, then in Basel itself from 2009. At the end of April 2017, my wife and I left Basel to begin a new life in the UK again. Personally, I am now experiencing some sort of post-Brexit 'expat re-entry shock' in a country that is nothing like the one I left back in 2000.

As a member of the German BDÜ (Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators), I work from home on a freelance basis after having originally been employed as an in-house translator for most of the period from 2000 to the end of 2010.
